Automation Hardware and Software Department is the one with the largest number of students in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, and trains specialists at all educational higher levels in the specialty “Automation, computer-integrated technologies and robotics”.
The history of the department dates back to 1960s, when the Department of Automation Theoretical Fundamentals was created at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It was renamed the Department of Chemical Productions Automation later. Its first head was Professor Yurii Kornilov, a leading scientist who stood at the origins of automatic control theory.
In 1974, the Department of Cybernetics of Chemical-Technological Processes was established at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The founder and first head of the department was Alla Bondar. She, together with a small team of like-minded co-workers, implemented the training of specialists in the newest at that time specialty: Basic processes of chemical production and chemical cybernetics.
